Lanzarote will be an interesting visit since besides enjoying the sun and beaches there are many attractions and sights not to be missed while you are in the island. Here is a list of the top places to go to in Lanzarote.
Puerto del Carmen: this is one of the parts of the island more popular for British tourists and probably one of the more crowded areas. In Puerto del Carmen you will find beautiful large beaches, most of them located in the Avenida de las Playas (Avenue of the beaches), some of the beaches of Puerto del Carmen are perfect for scuba diving. In the Avenida de las Playas you will find the tourist office.
Parque Nacional de Timanfaya: This is probably the most incredible place to visit in Lanzarote. You cannot leave the island without having seen the Nature Park of Timanfaya, also known as Mountains of the Fire (Montañas del Fuego).
Timanfaya is actually one of the largest volcanoes in the island and here the Canarian architect Cesar Manrique designed a route among inactive volcanoes and a tourist centre where you will experiment the power of nature and see the effects of the volcanoes in the island. The best way to get to the Timanfaya Park is by car since public transport does not reach here. In the park you can see a short show and take the 40-minute bus tour across the volcanoes.
Playa Blanca: This is another popular part of the island which still keeps the charm of a small town. Located in the southern part of Lanzarote Playa Blanca offers lovely beaches, a charming seaside walk and astonishing views over the neighbouring Fuerteventura Island. You will also find comfortable hotels and accommodation in this part of the island.
Playas de Papagayo: A few kilometres from Playa Blanca you will find another beautiful nature spot, the beaches of Papagayo, some of the more peaceful and beautiful beaches and coves of Lanzarote.
Jameos del Agua: One of the most famous tourist attractions in the island, designed by César Manrique the Jameos is a volcanic cavern with a beautiful lagoon built into a subterranean tube formed over 3000 years ago. Here you will see a unique species of tiny crabs which exist only in the Jameos.
Cueva de los verdes: Located close to Jameos del Agua, in the North of Lanzarote, the cave of the greens is another interesting visit. Here you will take a tour through caves and lava tubes formed thousands of years ago.
Los Hervideros: In the western part of Lanzarote you will find the Hervideros (the boiling ones), a beautiful place worth visiting and one of the few free visits. The Hervideros are a series of cliffs formed by volcanic lava and eroded by the sea forming paths and balconies in the rocks.
